Summer 2019 Projects Underway

As soon as school was dismissed in June, construction crews took over at Edison, Emerson and Salk elementary schools and the Dooley Center.

This summer, these buildings will receive updates from the 2017 Fraser Difference bond. This includes installing air conditioning and sound-absorbing ceilings in the gymnasiums; replacing classroom coat cubbies and countertops; replacing curbs as needed and resurfacing the parking lots. Asphalt play areas will also be upgraded and new playground equipment installed. Finally, Salk Elementary will receive a new roof.

In addition to the construction projects, there are also technology and furniture updates throughout the district. The Board of Education awarded a bid to purchase new Apple TVs for the entire district. These will replace the current devices and allow students and teachers to project their screen on a nearby TV or Promethean Smart Panel. This allows for collaboration and group work.

About $2 million of the 2017 Bond was earmarked for furniture. During the 2018-2019 school year, a cohort of 24 teachers in kindergarten through 8th grade received professional development on Universal Design for Learning. In June 2019, the Board of Education awarded bids to purchase innovative and flexible furniture for these classrooms. Furniture should be installed by the the first day of school in September 2019.
